The Wedding season in Santorini

The best season for weddings in Santorini is from May to October. The weather is perfect, especially on May, June and September it is not too hot and there is no risk of rain (the last two years we had some small rainfalls early May though).  A visit to the island during the autumn season (late September – October) offers lower prices in flights, hotels and restaurants. At the end of October the winter is coming slowly… some clouds cover the sky and the temperature is around 12-15 degrees. On April the temperature goes upper and more visitors are coming to enjoy the unique beauty of Santorini. The best period to visit the island having an eye on venues and other vendors is on April or October ! Not to be missed: if you are willing to have your wedding on July or August have in mind that the temperature during noon is more than 30-34 degrees.. we suggest a late ceremony those months e.g. 6:00 or 7:00 p.m. (the sunset is after 8:00 p.m.).

When is the best time to start preparing your wedding in Santorini

Nowadays Santorini is very popular wedding destination and most of the wedding venues are already full booking for the current year. Our suggestion would be to start preparing your destination wedding on our beautiful island a year in advance. To give you an idea: Le Ciel and Dana Villas are already full booked (for the high season) two years beforehand !! However, it is possible to organize a wedding in a shorter period of time e.g. in two months but availabilities on locations and wedding venues will be limited.  Important: if you are planning to have a small wedding ceremony with only the two of you there is no need of panic, we can arrange your wedding even one month prior or if you wish to have a Symbolic ceremony without paperwork, one week is enough time !!

Choose and book the date – venue ! The most important thing is to find your dream wedding venue and block the date with the registrar. Santorini is very popular wedding destination and almost all official wedding venues are already full booked for the current wedding season; some even for next year!

Book your flights and accommodation. After booking the date you can make a research on airplane tickets and find your best hotel or villa. Our suggestion is to book a hotel with easy access until the wedding day and a suite with amazing view for after the wedding !

Book your photographer & videographer. After booking your wedding venue and your flight tickets the next important thing is to find which photographer and videographer can capture in the most artistic and unique way your dream wedding !  There are more than 20 choices and most of them are soooooo good. Your wedding planner will give you all details regarding their rates and availability.

Choose your wedding style & colours – flowers ! This is our favourite part; we love to help you choosing your favourite decorations, flowers, wedding favours and all small details that will make your wedding a unique day on your life! Nowadays in Santorini we can order all kind of flowers and have stylish floral arrangements; we just need to know one-two months in advance so our florist will order them on time.

Reception, menus & Open bar choices. Every wedding ceremony should be followed by an elegant reception offering  your guests a lovely and memorable wedding experience. Legalities – Paperwork. As your wedding is a Legal one you must prepare all needed documents 3 months prior your wedding day (not earlier please)! Your wedding planner will help you with the necessary documents and  the translations/ verifications.

Wedding transfers – wedding favours – other details. The last things after booking all the above are the wedding transfers (for you and your guests) and the wedding favours; in case you want something that will remind all moments of your Santorini experience and any other small beautiful detail or personal request that you may have.

Confirm and relax ! At your pre-wedding meeting that will be arranged 1-2 days before your wedding you will confirm all services that you will have paid with your wedding planner/coordinator and then you can relax and enjoy your guests and our beautiful island ! Our team is responsible for all services that are involved in your wedding so you just need to be beautiful and happy.

Visit the registry. The very next working day after your wedding with your coordinator you need to visit the local registry at the Town Hall to register your wedding. It is a very simple procedure and you will arrange the appointment with your coordinator locally.

What to start with

The first thing you need to do is to choose your wished wedding date (at least an approximately period) and then find your preferred wedding venue/venues. Your wedding planner will send you all details and links so you can find your loved venue in the easiest way. Most couples want to have both ceremony and reception in one place that would be easier and more comfortable for the guests without any transfer and changing place BUT there are some disadvantages on that because of the cost (all caldera wedding venues are more expensive than other restaurants) plus the sound restriction to stop the loud music before midnight ! the party must come to the end …

The next step is to think about the below:

    1. Determine an approximate budget; put a limit that will help you choosing things
    1. How many guests are you going to invite? This is really a headache..  Most of the times couples choose a destination wedding so they can “avoid” a huge wedding on their country; that is totally true and acceptable. Do the same !
  1. Our wedding consultants will send you our suggestions and packages and make any necessary research for availability on your favourite wedding venues without any cost. Just ask for an offer !

Once you have received our offer and information on availability of your favorite wedding venues, you will need to give attention to the following considerations:

If you want to have a Legal Civil wedding or a Symbolic one (for your ceremony). Have in mind that a Symbolic ceremony is exactly the same procedure as the Legal one without the paperwork that most of the time it takes long to collect them and in some countries cost a fortune the translations, verifications and putting the Apostille Stamp on. A clever idea is to have a Legal wedding in your country (very easy!) and having a Symbolic ceremony in Santorini without telling anything to your guests !

Your wedding planner can pre-book your preferred wedding date and venue so we can block and keep the date until paying the deposit to ensure that the venue has been assigned to you.

Book your flight tickets and find the best hotels/villas for you and your guests (It is worth to mention that Santorini does not have big resorts or huge hotels and is quite difficult to find accommodation for a large number of guests.  If you need any help with accommodation – we are happy to advise or help with booking). Important: please inform your guests that it will be easier to book their accommodation in one village or same area so you can meet easier before and after the wedding; furthermore that will help a lot with the wedding transfers on the day. Mind the steps on your booking … some amazing properties/private villas or hotels have soooo difficult access with lot’s of stairs that no lady want to walk with her high heels..

Coordinate the main points of your contract with your wedding planner. Book your photographer and videographer that will capture in the best way your unique and stylish wedding. After booking your wished venue the next important thing is to find the photographer that you love his/her job. There are so many choices but your wedding assistant will make everything easy to choose who is fitting you better. Have in mind that even two months before your wedding you can amend the contract to add services it but is better to have finalize everything until that time (two months prior your wedding). The planning procedure starts from the first contact with our team and you will finalize your contract/payments two month before your wedding date when you will be sure and well known of the exact number of your guests.

Your reception should be a successful and elegant event for you and your guests; an authentic party offering them a lovely and memorable wedding experience. Depended of the property your wedding consultant will give you all details regarding the available menus, open bar packages and several musicians or d.j. services for a real party! Have in mind that the properties that located on the caldera/cliff have sound restrictions approximately around midnight that the music must low down (Dana Villas 11:00 p.m., Venetsanos winery 11:00 p.m., Santorini GEM 00:00, Le Ciel 00:00 etc..). If you want to have an amazing party until late night you should choose other places as Theros wave bar, Pyrgos restaurant or any other company that is located far away from the cliff.

After making all important booking and arrangements it’s time for some other small details regarding the wedding transfers – wedding favours, parasols, name cards etc…  The wedding transfers are very important so nobody will have a delay or loose the ceremony. Everybody need to be on time and no delay is accepted by the celebrant as he is the most busy man on the island. Especially the late transfer is the most necessary because after a happy and successful wedding party no one wants to wait for a taxi and Santorini is not famous for that service.. many times in the past guests were waiting for more than one hour to return at their hotels.

Confirm and relax ! At your pre-wedding meeting that will be arranged 1-2 days before your wedding you will meet your wedding planner/coordinator at your hotel and discuss together the itinerary of your big day, confirm all services that you will have paid due your contract, visit both ceremony and reception venues and add any last minute service or request. After that meeting nothing will be missed and you can relax and enjoy your guests and our beautiful island! Our team is responsible for all services that are involved in your wedding and in your contract so you just need to be beautiful and happy. On the day you will have your best friends and families close to you during your preparation that is the most funny and happy moment of the wedding day. The make up artist and the hairdresser will come early enough for the bridal preparation (earlier than 5 hours in case your bridesmaids wants beauty services!). Everything will go due your wedding itinerary and the ceremony needs to start on time; a 5 minutes delay is acceptable but not more please because we may have problem with the celebrant as he has numerous of wedding everyday and all day. The ceremony last 15 minutes unless you have some Poems, Readings or Personal Vows. Afterwards we have congratulations, toast and photos with your family and friends (group photos). Then your guests will be moved to the reception and we always suggest the couple to have some private romantic photos with their photographer and videographer in a graphical and beautiful village/landscape. Whitewashed neighbourhoods and blue domes are the standards spots for a successful wedding photo shooting !! When you finish with your photo shooting you will make your impressive entrance at the reception hall playing your wished song and make everybody feel so happy watching you on your big day. Then dinner, speeches, sunset, cutting of the cake, 1st dance and …. PARTY !!   Your wedding planner/coordinator will be at both venues early enough to secure that everything will be as scheduled and you will have an amazing day as you worth.

The next working day after your wedding with your coordinator you need to visit the local registry at the Town Hall to register your wedding. It is a very simple procedure and you will arrange the appointment with your coordinator locally. You must have only your both Passports and the registrar will provide us three official wedding certificates (on the wedding day you will receive some wedding certificates but those will be only for photos and memories..). The official wedding certificates will be in Greek language and won’t have the Apostille Stamp on. If the Apostille is necessary for your country your wedding coordinator will make a specific procedure to send them in another island for that Stamp and when ready our team will Post them to you. In Greece the Apostille Stamp is totally free; it just needs 3-4 weeks to be ready and delivered to our agency. Your coordinator will make the whole procedure, you have only to check if your personal details are mentioned correct on the official certificate!
